April is Stress Awareness Month
In conjunction with Stress Awareness Month, Brianne Cortez, LPC, a staff counselor at Creative Family Solutions, will present strategies to recognize and manage stress in your life. The discussion will take place Wednesday, April 20 at 6 p.m. at the East Regional Library in Destrehan. There will also be stress balls and unique coloring pages for attendees to take home. A tea station will be in the room to help create a calm environment.
Creative Family Solutions is a non-profit, community based counseling agency located in Luling. They provide services to youth, families, and individuals in need of counseling, educational, and other growth-related services.
Stress Awareness Month has been held every April since 1992. During the month, health care professionals work to increase public awareness about the effects stress has on everyday wellness and what can be done to combat it.
One way to manage stress is to try something new or begin a new hobby. The library offers a selection of free classes and activities for adults that can be used as an outlet for stress.
Sara Lyon, a registered yoga teacher and also a counselor at Creative Family Solutions, teaches a weekly yoga class Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. at the East Regional Library. It is a gentle yoga class that introduces the concepts of yoga postures, breathwork, and mindful meditation. This class is sponsored by the United Way of St. Charles and Creative Family Solutions.
There are also monthly crafts that take place at multiple library locations. Some are designed just for adults while others are perfect for a variety of ages.
Flying Needles is a knitting and crocheting group that meets weekly on Tuesdays at 5 p.m. Beginning and experienced crafters are welcome!
The East Regional Library and Paradis Branch offer monthly Cookbook Clubs. If you love to cook and share your thoughts about food with others, try one of our cookbook clubs.
