Devin's Podcast Review: The Adventure Zone

The Adventure Zone, started in 2014, is one of the most popular Dungeons & Dragons podcasts out there. It's an actual-play podcast, which means you get to listen to three goofy brothers (Justin, Griffin, and Travis McElroy) and their dad (Clint McElroy) play D&D together. I personally knew nothing about D&D before I got into this show in 2016, and while the McElroys don't always stick to the rules, The Adventure Zone is a great intro to the world of D&D as well as tabletop RPG podcasts in general.

There have been several tabletop role-playing game campaigns on this show, but I'd recommend starting from the beginning with the Balance campaign. Griffin McElroy is the dungeon master for this one (meaning he crafts the story and runs the game), and he's really an excellent storyteller. If this podcast doesn't make you fall in love with the idea of D&D and collaborative storytelling, I don't know what will.

General warnings: No triggers or darker themes for this one, but there's definitely strong language and adult humor.
