Upcoming Legal Events

Online legal workshops by lawyers with Southeast Louisiana Legal Services and the Louisiana State Bar Association's Lawyers And Libraries program and are on the calendar for October and beyond.

Lawyers with Southeast Louisiana Legal Services will host three live, online workshops; there will be one each month through the rest of the year. Registration is required:

  • How Can the St. Charles Access to Justice Center Help Me? On Thursday, October 22 at noon
    • Learn about how you can get free legal information through the Self-Help Desk for civil legal cases in St. Charles Parish. You can also learn about how you may qualify for free legal representation from Southeast Louisiana Legal Services in civil cases if you are eligible for their help. Register here.
       
    • Do I Need a Will or a Power of Attorney? On Tuesday, November 17 at noon
      • Learn what wills and powers of attorney are, and why you may need them. You can also learn about how you may qualify for free legal representation from Southeast Louisiana Legal Services in civil cases if you are eligible for their help. Register here.
         
    • The Eviction Moratorium Ends Soon—What Happens If I Can’t Pay My Rent? On Tuesday, December 15 at noon
      • The eviction moratorium ends 12/31/2020. What happens if you can't pay your rent? Learn more about your rights if you are facing eviction. You can also learn about how you may qualify for free legal representation from Southeast Louisiana Legal Services in civil cases if you are eligible for their help. Register here.

    Lawyers And Libraries takes place Monday, October 26 through Saturday, October 31. It is sponsored by the Louisiana State Bar Association and the Louisiana Library Association to provide access to legal information to individuals around the state. Due to COVID-19, all sessions will be held remotely. A lawyer will call everyone signed up to discuss their legal issues. 

    Visit www.LouisianaLawyersInLibraries.org to sign up for a time block. A lawyer will then call you during that time block for a one-on-one, 15-minute consultation session over the phone.
