Iron Sharpens Iron Documentary

The St. Charles Parish Library was one of four sites selected by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) to host a film-viewing and discussion based on its popular reading and discussion series, Currents.

Iron Sharpens Iron, a 28-minute documentary directed by John Richie and produced by LEH, captures a community’s fight against the development of the Plaquemines Liquids Terminal on land that includes the community’s ancestral burial grounds. It also examines the destruction to the community caused by Hurricane Ida.

Local documentary filmmaker Royd C. Anderson will lead a discussion around the film’s themes of environmental racism, racial segregation, economic injustice, industrial encroachment, and extreme weather, as well as consider the intersections between history and the present.

The viewing and discussion will take place Thursday, September 14 at 6:30pm at the East Regional Library in Destrehan.
