The Bookmobile is a mobile library that brings books to patrons who cannot come to our branch libraries. If you would like to schedule a Bookmobile stop where you live, contact Audrey Breaux at the West Regional Library.

Finding Materials in the Collection

The easiest way to find something in the library is to ask at the Circulation Desk. Library staff members will do their best to help you find the information you need or want. If we do not have what you are looking for, we may be able to tell you where you can get it.

If you want to look for your materials independently, the best place to start is with the computer catalog. If you are inside of the library then you can search the catalog from one of the terminals. If you are outside of the library you can search the catalog through the Internet.

General Collection

The library owns a wide array of books, magazines, newspapers, videos, audiobooks, pamphlets, maps, telephone directories, college catalogs, microfilm, other information resources, and audio-visual equipment.

These materials are distributed between our six branches and one bookmobile, and are accessible via our online catalog. Some of these resources circulate and can be checked, while others are reference materials and cannot be checked out. If we do not have what you are looking for, we can try to get it for you through Interlibrary Loan (ILL).

Internet Access & Electronic Resources

In addition to the print and audio-visual resources in our collection, we also provide Internet access through computer workstations at all six branches. A vast amount of information is freely available on the Internet. Through our membership in the Louisiana Library Network our workstations also provide access to several research tools that are otherwise available only by paid subscription. These resources are databases which contain indexing for thousands of magazines and journals, and full-content or full-text retrieval for many of those.

All patrons using the library's computer workstations should be aware of our Electronic Resources Use Policy. If you need help using these electronic resources, ask the library staff at the Circulation Desk. Library staff are trained in the use of the various databases, and have a general working knowledge of the world wide web. We will help as much as we can, but please realize that there is no way that we can know it all.

Wireless Internet access is available at all six branches. Click here for details

Louisiana Room & Parish Archive

The library maintains a special collection of material about Louisiana in general with a primary focus on St. Charles Parish. This is a great resource for information on local history and genealogy. This collection is located in the Louisiana Room on the second floor of the West Regional Library, which can be accessed via the stairs or elevator at the back of the library. If the doors are locked, please ask a staff member at the front desk for assistance.

In addition to the Louisiana collection, the Louisiana Room also houses the videotape archives of the St. Charles Parish Council. These tapes cannot be checked out, but there is a television and VCR available in the archive room for viewing the tapes.
